On November 13th, the world was rocked by news of the ISIS terrorist attacks on Paris that killed 129 people. At the behest of the French government, U2 announced they would postpone their iNnocence + eXperience Live performances scheduled for later that night and the following day in Paris. Both concerts have officially been rescheduled for December 6th and 7th. The latter of the two shows will air live on HBO.
When announcing the new concert dates, Bono said, "So much that was taken from Paris on the tragic night of November 13th is irreplaceable. For one night, the killers took lives, took music, took peace of mind - but they couldn't steal the spirit of that city... We're going to put on our best for Paris," reports Variety. If history has taught us anything U2, it is that you can always expect no less than their best, so with a promise like that, it should be a beautiful show.
U2 has always been very fan-centric, and this tragedy is just another reminder of exactly how much they think of their listeners. Arthur Fogel, the band's producer and promoter, told The Irish Examiner, "The band wanted us to reschedule as soon as possible so that they could honour the commitment to their audience."
The show will be held at AccorHotels Arena in Bercy close to where Eagles of Death Metal were playing on the fateful night of the attacks. HBO will air the concert at 9:00 p.m. EST in place of the premier of Very Semi Serious: A Partially Thorough Portrait of New Yorker Cartoonist.
The iNnocence + Experience tour started in the U.S. and will end with six show's in the band's home country of Ireland, where they are currently playing. According to Rolling Stone, "The epic jaunt - named after their most recent LP, 2014's Songs of Innocence, and a planned follow-up, Songs of Experience - has featured a mix of hits and classic deep cuts, with the quartet performing on a multi-stage set-up backed by LED screens.
