The George Zimmerman trial may be over but the after effects can still be felt. Former information technology director Ben Kruidbos is suing his former boss, State Attorney Angela Corey for an unlawfull fireing after he blew the whistle on her withholding evidence in the Trayvon Martin Killing trial.
Kruidbos is asking for $5.Million dollars in damages and his job back for what he calls an unlawfull fireing. Kruidbos blew the whistle thats the state attorney Angela Corey failed to supply the defense with evidence he provided them regarding information he received from Trayvon Martin's cell phone. Kruidbos provided the information to the prosecution who didn't share it with the defense until June, leaving them little time to prepare.
Now Corey is fighting back against the lawsuit claiming that as an elected official, she has "sovereign immunity" and therefore cannot be sued.
Kruidbos' attorney Wesley White was outraged by the claim:
"I think it's an absurd assertion that she's above the law."
Back in August, White, a former colleagues of Corey's made a statement to the press about the case, according to the Huffington Post White said:
"I cannot find a single other case of that statute being litigated. Normally people wouldn't do something like that, fire somebody as a result of testifying pursuant to subpoena,"
A six page letter written by the state prosecutor, said that Kruidbos's "deliberate, willful and unscrupulous actions" were "a shallow, but obvious, attempt to cloak yourself in the protection of the whistleblower law."
The presiding judge over the case, Judge Debra Nelson has yet to Make a ruling, deferring the case for the time being.
Tell us what you think? Should Kruidbos be fired for his whistle blowing or does he deserves the $5. Million he is asking for? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
