There has been another update in the news surrounding the 50 Shades of Grey movie cast. A notable producer recently revealed that Charlie Hunnam struggled with accepting the role of Christian Grey. This latest update comes after fans of the Fifty Shades of Grey novel nearly rioted when the casting decision was announced.
Kurt Sutter, the creator and producer of Sons of Anarchy, has grown close to Charlie Hunnam on the set of their hit FX show. So naturally, Charlie and Kurt talked about Hunnam’s offer to play the lead role in the film adaptation of EL James novel.
Sutter recently opened up about their conversations in an interview with Vulture. The acclaimed producer didn’t shy away from discussing Charlie’s decision, telling the site:
“We had a couple long creative conversations about what the role was, what it meant. He [Hunnam] struggled with it because obviously there’s a lot of noise around that role. There’s a lot of predetermined expectations.”
Sutter also offered up his advice to the future Christian Grey, telling him:
“My advice to him was: Look at the material. Don’t look at the history. Don’t look at where it potentially could be going. Look at the material and look at the people you’re working with. If it makes sense, then move forward. I think that’s what he did.”
No matter how sound the decision, Charlie could be regretting his decision. Once EL James announced the casting for the flick, fans of her novel erupted on social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
Since the backlash, the movie studio made the decision to increase the star’s security.
Do you think that Charlie really needs the security? Were you happy with the casting decision? Let us know your thoughts in the comment field below.
