NBC's The Blacklist gets the green light. The crime drama is the network's first new series to officially be renewed for a second season. The show, staring Emmy winner James Spader, has helped provide some much needed relief for the struggling network.
NBC's losing streak might be over. James Spader and The Voice are helping to return the channel to it's former stature as a top tear network. Now the show has officially been slated for a second season.
President of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke made the announcement:
“The many layers of Red Reddington and his mysterious reasons for getting into bed with the FBI seem to be fascinating to fans of this show. With great talent like James Spader and Megan Boone on board, as well our stellar executive producers and the whole cast and crew, we believe this outstanding series will continue to make NBC a big destination on Monday nights.”
Red Reddington is a lot more than a cheap Hannibal Lecter rip off. Star James Spader recently spoke to The Huffington Post about the character:
"He amused me. He has such a strange and enigmatic life, and I liked the fact that the show could surprise you and be sort of thrilling, and yet, at the same time, have a sense of humor and irreverence...Sometimes good people do terribly bad things. And sometimes bad people do terribly good things. And he's both of those. He's both of those at different times."
So far, ABC is the only network to cancel a new series with the ill fated Lucky 7. Fox was the first to announce a renewal with its hit Sleepy Hollow.
The Blacklist comes on Monday nights at 10 p.m. on NBC following The Voice. What other shows do you want to see return? Sound off in the comments below.
