Phil Kline's Unsilent Night Event & SantaCon Descend on New York Together on December 12

If you live in the tristate area then you may have encountered the citywide phenomenon, SantaCon. This year, however, while drunken St. Nicks descend on New York, Phil Kline's Unsilent Night will happen alongside roaming Santa Clauses. This year, 2015, SantaCon and the Unsilent Night Event with coincide and they will descend upon New York together on December 12.

Last week, the SantaCon "association" announced that it will take to New York City on the second Saturday in December. Unsilent Night, too, has announced that it will gather adjacent to the Santas -- at 7 p.m.

For those who are unfamiliar with the event, Unsilent Night is an annual event going on its 24th year now, and is not restricted to just NYC specifically. The 30-city event is the product of minimalist composer Phil Kline.

Kline invites anyone and everyone to grab a boom box loaded with a specific 45-minute track and walk from Washington Square Park to Tompkins Square Park. The result of the project is head turning, making a large cacophony of sound as it marches down the arteries of the metropolitan area.

According to Bedford + Bowery: "Given that SantaCon has not been known to interact kindly with less douchey spectacles, one has to wonder how the Santas will respond to a rival army. To be fair, UnsilentaCon [Ed. Note - A convergence of Santa Con and Unsilent Night.] has happened before without incident, and SantaCon hasn't yet announced its route. But with at least one bar welcoming them with open arms, Santas are bound to invade the East Village regardless. Expect something out of The Night Before, the Seth Rogen film that filmed on the Lower East Side a year ago and comes out next week."

Both spectacles are bound to perturb New York residents regardless of how well the two groups behave towards each other. If you've ever encountered SantaCon firsthand then you know how tensions can arise from drunken roamers facing the locals.

Bridge and tunnel folk are all welcome to participate in SantaCon and Unsilent Night.

So on the second Saturday in December, which appears to be December 12, please feel free to don your 40 oz. wielding Santa Suit during the day and then pop over to check out Kline's 24th annual Unsilent Night extravaganza. Be sure to stop back here afterwards. We'd love your take in the comments on the events.
