It looks like the headless horsemen will ride again. After only three episodes, Fox's Sleepy Hollow has been renewed for a second season. This marks the first of the network's new series to be picked up.
It was announced on Thursday that the modern day adaptation of Washington Irving's classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, has been officially renewed for a second season. Fans received the good news ahead of the official announcement via the show's official Twitter account:
"We want our fans to be the first to know: #sleepyhollow has been picked up for a second season! #congrats #sleepyseason2"
Kevin Reilly, FOX Entertainment Chairman confirmed the renewal in an official statement:
"The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking – it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast. I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two."
The show is the first of the fall's new TV lineup to be brought back. However, the short season will not be extended into the spring, as the network has already slotted the Kevin Bacon crime drama, The Following.
The renewal isn't surprising, considering the show brought in the network's highest ratings for a premiere drama in nearly a decade. However, the early announcement is smart considering some viewers are hesitant to invest time in a new series, out of fear of a first season cancelation.
Sleepy Hollow stars Nicole Beharie, Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, with Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane. The show airs on Monday nights at 9 p.m. on Fox. You can catch up with the headless horsemen on Hulu Plus.
