Tonight is a big night for Conan O'Brien and Rebel Wilson. Their new series, Super Fun Night, airs on ABC. The latest installment to the network's fall lineup has already garnered positive reviews.
Ex-Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien is making his return to prime time network TV. The one-time SNL and Simpsons writer is producing the new ABC sitcom, Super Fun Night. The new series, stars and is written by Australian actress Rebel Wilson, best known to American audiences for her breakout roles in Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect.
O'brien first fell in love with Wilson, when she would be a guest on hisTBS talk show. During a recent Television Critics Association Tour, the talk show host gushed over the actress:
“When the show was over, I walked over to [the executive producer] and said, ‘I want her back tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day.’ She’s one of the more likeable performers I’ve ever seen.”
Inspired by O'Brien's admiration, Wilson began writing a script centered around experiences she and her sister would have on what they used to call "Friday Night Fun Nights." The series follows three professional women who, once a week, unwind with their own version of the wild party night. Wilson also commented at the event:
“The purpose of the show to me is to really inspire girls who don’t think they’re cool, or popular, or pretty and all that, to get out there, and that they can have fun and exciting lives too, and I think that in order to do that you need to present a very realistic version of what it’s like to be a girl who looks like me and is not the coolest.”
Super Fun Night premiers tonight on ABC, at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT) following Modern Family.
