Survivor Series, taking place November 22, was originally to host WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins vs. No. 1 title contender Roman Reigns. However, Rollins suffered a devastating knee injury known as the "terrible triad," where one tears the ACL, MCL and meniscus in the knee. With a recovery time table set at around 6-9 months (and potentially longer), he's been stripped of the title. So heading into Survivor Series, there will now be a tournament for the new champion, and these five superstars should have a chance at winning it.
The first three are legitimate, likely options, while the final two are surprise picks. Enjoy.
1. Roman Reigns
This one is easy. Obviously, Reigns was the No. 1 contender after winning a fatal-fourway match on RAW. Considering WWE is a bit pressed for stars right now, as John Cena, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar are all on hiatus for one reason or another, Reigns may get his chance to shine here.
2. Sheamus
After winning the Money in the Bank briefcase, Sheamus has a claim to the title as well. Will he save that claim for another day? It remains to be seen exactly what WWE has in store, as details for the tournament have not yet been finalized.
3. Dean Ambrose
Ambrose has most recently been fighting alongside Reigns against The Wyatts, and while they took care of business at Hell in a Cell, how interesting would it be if Ambrose and Reigns ended up fighting one another for the title at Survivor Series? It's certainly an angle that WWE should consider, and would put an entirely new twist on the match.
4. Cesaro
Cesaro has gone from potential World Heavyweight Title contender to not really having a role pretty quickly. After receiving such high praise earlier in the year, maybe now is the time for WWE to reprise his main-event status.
5. Finn Balor
Balor has established himself as the face of NXT, WWE's developmental branch. He's the NXT Champion, and it'd truly be inspiring for followers if such an underdog were to come in and steal the show at the highest level. With WWE having a need for stars, bringing in a new one wouldn't be such a bad idea.
