Kirk Cameron is probably still celebrating the success of his new movie, Unstoppable. The actor-turned-religious guru had a big opening night last Tuesday, despite a temporary (and accidental) Facebook block. The film was so successful a new date has been added. In this latest update, we’ll take a look at the numbers and breakdown the Facebook controversy.
According to the latest box office figures, Kirk could have generated the most sales on Tuesday night, when his latest film premiered. Even though the film saw a limited release of about 700 theatres, it raked in an impressive $2 Million dollars.
The live event was so popular, they are scheduling another date. Due to sold out performances, the film will re-air on Thursday October 3 at 7:00 p.m.
Despite the 42-year-old actor’s success, viewers can be sure that he won’t stop blaming social media for his fallen career. But, it’s very difficult to play the victim when the majority of the world’s population shares your same religious views.
Cameron proved to be a giant crybaby earlier in the year, when Facebook accidentally banned links to his newest low-budget, high-judgment flick. Without consulting the social networking site, Cameron knew immediately what was happening--the devil...and gays and lesbians everywhere...had targeted him and his savior.
Facebook, however, revealed the actual cause when they released an official statement:
"To protect the hundreds of millions of people who connect and share on Facebook every day, we have automated systems that work in the background to stymie bad actors who often use links to spread spam and malware. These systems are not perfect, though, and in rare instances they make mistakes. This link was blocked for a very short period of time after being misidentified as a potential spam or malware site."
Despite Facebook revealing what actually occurred, Cameron told his followers:
“People tried to stop Unstoppable on Facebook, and because millions of us joined together as one voice Facebook has apologized and welcomed us back!"
