Global Artists to Converge for 'Dreamers Renegades Visionaries: The Glenn Gould Variations'

On September 22 and 23, 2012, an unprecedented mix of artists, creators and thinkers from Canada, United States, France, Germany, Britain, Argentina, China and Japan will converge on Toronto for DREAMERS RENEGADES VISIONARIES: The Glenn Gould Variations (glenngouldvariations.ca), it was announced today.

A creative summit combining performance and talk that is both accessible and affordable, the two-day event premieres at Convocation Hall, University of Toronto, as part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Gould's birth.

"As inspired by Canadian Glenn Gould, himself one of the world's most brilliant creative forces, a musician, writer, broadcaster, innovator and icon, DREAMERS RENEGADES VISIONARIES: The Glenn Gould Variations takes the immersive festival experience to the next level," said Artistic Director Ron Davis.

"The greatest artists and thinkers from around the world will gather at the University of Toronto for this once in a lifetime celebration," added Co-Artistic Director Prof. Pia Kleber.

DREAMERS RENEGADES VISIONARIES: The Glenn Gould Variations brings together filmmakers Norman Jewison and Atom Egoyan, pianist Lang Lang, choreographer Marie Chouinard, pop musician Chilly Gonzales, theatre artist Robert Wilson and chanteuse Sophie Milman with philosopher Mark Kingwell, copyright activist Cory Doctorow, NGO leader Johann Olav Koss, music producer Bob Ezrin, futurist Ben Goertzel and many more to enlighten audiences with their work, their stories and their ideas.

"Finally, an exciting, new conference for inquiring minds that you can't afford to miss - because you can afford it!" said filmmaker Norman Jewison.Mixing high art with pop culture, entertainment with education, each day as many as 25 'dreamers, renegades and visionaries' will present new work, new interpretations and unexpected collaborations.

Programming is designed to appeal to all ages and is priced accordingly: in a first for Toronto, one-day passes are only $150 and $60 for students, and weekend passes are $250 and $100 for students.

DREAMERS RENEGADES VISIONARIES: The Glenn Gould Variations is a not-for-profit event, made possible with the support of The Glenn Gould Estate, University of Toronto, BMO, Manulife Financial, OCAF, MacLaren McGill, Audi, Royal Conservatory of Music and partner The Canadian Music Centre. Its mission is to reach out to the young and young-at-heart, inspiring and provoking creativity in thought, word and deed, with no boundaries.
