‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie News: Fans Overjoyed Charlie Hunnam May Quit Adaptation of EL James Book, Following Christian Grey Petition

The upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie made a lot of noise when it recently announced the cast. Fans were not pleased with the decision to hire Charlie Hunnam to play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of EL James’ popular book series. Now after nearly 85,000 people signed a petition to replace Charlie Hunnam, rumors are flying which claim that the Sons of Anarchy actor may be quitting the project.

The hunky Charlie Hunnam probably isn’t used to being attacked by disgruntled women, but since it was announced that he would be playing Christian, that’s the world he finds himself in. And it might push Charlie past the breaking point. At least that’s what Celebrity Dirty Laundry is claiming.

They allege that the actor is already thinking about quitting the film, due to the negative reaction he’s generated. Charlie has already been provided extra security and has addressed claims that he couldn’t play the actor, telling fans:

"You know what, I had such a baptism of fire with regards to sexuality on camera at the beginning of my career. I starred in the British Channel 4 miniseries Queer as Folk, where I played a young, gay character, and there were some incredible, explicit sex scenes on that show...Now I am 16 years older and more mature so I don't anticipate them being too much of a problem. It's like anything else, just an exciting challenge."

Hunnam wasn’t the only one fans lashed out at. They also set their sights on his co-star, Dakota Johnson. Dakota will be playing Anastasia Steele in the film and has already taken her fair share of criticism. Hunnam--always the gentleman--defended the actress. He explained that there was already a chemistry between them, telling The Hollywood Reporter:

"As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us. If felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it."

Of course, that’s not the way you guys feel. When we asked what you thought about the decision to replace Hunnam, the vast majority of commenters responded favorably, bashing the chosen actors, like this responder:

“Dakota needs to GO! She is not the petite, pretty, doe-eyed, dainty and innocent Ana in the books. She has super small eyes, too tall, boyish body (no assets!), elongated features and angular face that make her look really old for her age - paired with the fact that she smokes and has a past of drug and alcohol abuse...I'm sure all of that is what makes her look so worn and old and her teeth gross. She is not an attractive girl - she's very homely, and that's not Ana. They can dye her hair brown and give her extensions but she still won't even come close to the character in the books. Not to mention she hardly has anything credible or worthy to her name. Charlie is okay...he isn't anything more than just another hot guy to me (and I am a big SOA fan) and Christian is STRIKING. But at least he's good looking and a good actor. They could've done a lot worse, like that did for Ana.”
