'The Walking Dead' Actor Lennie James "Giddy" from Using Bo Staff

The Walking Dead actor Lennie James really loves his bo staff. In a recent interview, he was "was giddy by the end of that scene." Here's the rest of the story.

The Walking Dead has had some great fight scenes featuring everything from rifles to clubs, and now Lennie James' character Morgan has joined the scene with a bo staff against the tribal Wolves. "The swinging of the stick has become fundamental to who Morgan is and it's symbolic of the path that he is walking down," James said recently.

"'It's become very important for me that as much as possible, especially any moment where the stick is being swung, that it's me doing that.'" It seems like this is yet another form of method acting. James is really getting into the swing of things.

It's quite an interesting development in a genre where swords and guns tend to dominate the scene. I find it rather refreshing to have a character using a less common weapon in the zombie/human fights. It adds a depth to the story that it was lacking.

And not only is James getting into the character for The Walking Dead, he's having a blast while doing it. "'I was 7 years old again and I was having the most fun. At the end of that scene I almost skipped away thinking, 'how good is my job?'"

Really good, I would imagine. Training in the use of a cool weapon, getting to fight zombies and humans (okay, stuntmen), and adding an interesting dynamic for the characters Rick and Morgan? That sounds like fun. I know I'd certainly enjoy a job where I got trained in the use of a bo staff. Or sword. I'm more fond of swords, but a staff is certainly easier to find in a zombie apocalypse.

So what do you think of Morgan? Is James doing a good job? What do you think Morgan's background is?
