Comic books have already taken over the silver screen with blockbuster film after blockbuster film. Now with the debut of ABC's Avenger's spin-off, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and the announcement that Fox has put in a season order for a Batman prequel called Gotham, it seems like the battle is being moved to broadcast network TV. But before these two shows can go head to head on the small screen, we thought we would size up their leading men and see which shows have the superior supporting hero. We'll find out by asking the question, "Who would win in a fight between Marvel's Phil Coulson and DC's Jim Gordon?"
James Gordon and Phil Coulson have a lot in common. Both men have been largely instrumental in supporting their costumed crime fighters. Coulson is the man who ultimately united the Avengers and Gordon has been aiding Batman in his war on crime for over 75 years. Both have fighting crime and defending the weak as their lives' work and both men are just that--men. Neither one of them have any super powers, which makes all of their previous stated accomplishments that much more impressive. So with the common ground out of the way, let's size them up to see who is better--everyone's favorite secret Agent of The GCPD's finest.
Commissioner James Gordon has been fighting crime in Gotham just as long as Batman has. Created in 1939 by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Gordon has appeared in the Caped Crusader's corner in nearly every incarnation of the character. Having appeared in every single live action Batman film, Gordon was most famously portrayed in the Dark Knight Trilogy by actor Gary Oldman. Gordon is a devoted lawman, husband and father. Gordon's daughter is Barbara, Batman's sidekick Batgirl.
Agent Phil Coulson has only been around since 2008 but since then he has been making his way around the Marvel Universe. First appering in Ironman, the character portrayed by actor Greg Clark has appeared in four feature films, two shorts, an animated series and stars in the new live action S.H.I.E.L.D series. Where he might not have Gordon's experience, he does have S.H.I.E.L.D's weapons and tech at his disposal...including a flying car. Not to mention, he has been brought back from the dead, but then again who hasn't in comics? ( Poor Uncle Ben)
