'Fallout 4' and 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' Simultaneous Release

With a several major games breaking out over the next 30 days, Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider will release simultaneously. So what can we expect?

With the release of Halo 5: Guardians, and the upcoming juggernauts of Star Wars Battlefront III and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, it's going to be a tough season for a lot of games. These three will be snapping up gamers' money left and right, and I know I don't have enough to get them all before year's end, much less other titles that might pique my fancy.

On the plus side, Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider also appeal to fans who may not be as into the standard first-person shooter (FPS) games. And both of these games will be releasing at the same time. As Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg (Xbox head of marketing) said:

"The challenge with Tomb Raider is if you go a week later you're against Star Wars Battlefront, if you go a week earlier you'll be against Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and if you go two weeks earlier you're against Halo. And then you go late and then you're like well, the consumer doesn't have any money left to buy the game."

Greenberg also put it like this: "would you rather launch against Call of Duty, Star Wars or Fallout?" For me, I'd launch my game against Fallout every time.

It really is a rather unpleasant time for some great games. Or at least, what many fans hope will be great games. On the plus side, for those like me who can't plop down $400 for new games in a month, they'll still be around after we've replenished our bank accounts after the holidays.

And before I forget to remind myself, Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are set for a November 10th release.
