Current SM Entertainment CEO, Kim Young Min, didn't seem in a mending bridges sort of mood when discussing former members of EXO's Chinese arm Tao, Luhan and Kris. In fact, he pretty much sank whatever remained of that bridge when he, though not implicitly by name, called the three disrespectful of their fans and the institution that made them stars.
Apparently not one to pull his punch, SM's CEO accused the three of being only concerned with their financial gain and nothing else. He also predicted their actions would have a vast and far reaching effect on Korea's entertainment industry. KPopStarz carried Kim Young Min's salvos over for you to enjoy, "Using the weaknesses in the legal systems of Korea and China, they could pursue their personal, economic, short-term gains. They only followed their 'selves,' without any communication with the fans who have been with them from the beginning and with the music market. This can all be seen as their personal matters."
Kim Young Min addressed these topics during a Korean-Chinese Music Forum. He sought to close the loopholes between the two countries that allowed the three to escape to China. From AllKPop, "It's not the time to argue the differences between the Korean and Chinese markets but the time to discuss how the Korean and Chinese leaders can lead, expand and advance the Asian market. We have to think about the online platforms and the overall management rules and devise an alternate course of action. There may be trial and error but we have to create a cohesive mechanism that will evolve the Asian market into the biggest market that the West has seen."
One thing is for certain. With SM Entertainment's CEO upping his rhetoric and calling for stricter controls of artists, other artists may start to join in with Tao, Luhan and Kris and call for greater freedoms. Compromise, anyone?
