There has been a major update in the DUI case of Amanda Bynes. Though her trial is taking place in 2013, the incident stems from an arrest that occurred last year. Bynes’ attorney recently claimed in court that Amanda was not mentally healthy enough to stand trial. In July, it was revealed that the young actress is suffering from a severe mental illness.
Richard Hutton, Amanda’s attorney, informed the court that Bynes was not capable of standing trial. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Edward Moreton happened to agree with him. The judge has since transferred the case to the court’s mental health division.
Bynes, herself, did not appear in court. She is currently receiving treatment at UCLA, an institution that is famous for it’s mental health center. In recent years, they have treated a number of troubled A-listers (including Britney Spears) with great success.
The cost of the facility, however, is quite pricey. According to a TMZ report, Amanda Bynes’ debilitating mental illness is costing her more than potential acting roles...it’s costing her a ton of cash. In a report issued last week, it was revealed that her stay is costing a staggering $3,500/day. A source talked to TMZ and explained the exorbitant fees:
“The cost is so high because it covers not just treatment, but living expenses as well. To put this in perspective, you can get a deluxe executive suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in nearby Beverly Hills for $815 a night."
The money might be worth it, considering some reports have indicated that the actress’ health has been improving at the treatment center. The sooner she gets better, the sooner she can be released.
Bynes exit is dependent upon the court system, as she has been placed on a psychiatric hold. The sentencing stems from a July incident where Bynes set fire to a neighbor’s driveway.
