Transformers 4: The Age of Extinction is almost upon us. With filming well underway and a trailer expected soon, the film is gearing up fast for its 2014 release date. With the Dinobots and their leader Grimlock confirmed, rumors are spreading about possible villains, Galvatron, and Unicron.
What would a Transformers movie be without Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Not only will the two Autobot staples return, but this time they will be joined by Grimlock and the gang. The film's producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, recently confirmed to Beijing News that the Dinobots will be in the new film as well as a revamped look for the more familiar Autobots:
“I can not disclose the specifics, but you can be sure that the joining of the Dinobots will give the audience new excitement. In addition to Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, the appearance of these classic roles changed, today the world’s coolest, most exciting cars will appear in the film, including China’s vehicles, whether you are a car enthusiast, you will feast your eyes and be shocked by them.”
As far as the villains go, producers are keeping their identities a very a tight lipped secret. However, here is what we know so far.
Hints are everywhere that the planet-sized Transformer, Unicron, will be the new big bad. First off, the official film synopsis put previous villains, the Decepticons, on the brink of extinction after the events of Dark of The Moon. The synopsis also says of the threat: "an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs." The description, thus far, fits Unicron perfectly.
Added to that is the confirmation that Cyclonus will appear in the movie. In the original animated series, Cyclonus was created by Unicron out of the shells of dying Decepticons. Reports that a prop of Megatron's head has been seen on set, suggest that he could in fact be resurrected as Galvatron.
Speaking of extinct creatures...this time around, actors Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel are nowhere to be seen. The film will feature an entirely new cast of "fleshlings." Most notably, Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Kelsey Grammer and Stanley Tucci will also help round out the humans. Steven Spielberg will be returning as producer, as well as director Michael Bay.
Transformers: Age of Extinction takes place four years after the events of 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Check out Transfomers 4 coming to theaters June 27, 2014.
