Country star Zack Brown caused quite the controversy when he openly called fellow artist Luke Bryan's new song "That's My Kind of Night" one of "the worst songs he has ever heard." Since then, a lot of other country artists have jumped in to defend Bryan and their genre. "Redneck Crazy" singer Tyler Farr is the latest country star to comment on the whole mess.
Zack Brown, of the Zack Brown Band, upset a lot of folks a few weeks ago when he told Canadian radio station JRFM:
“There’s not a lot of the country format that I really enjoy listening to. If I hear one more tailgate-in-the-moonlight, Daisy Duke song, I'm gonna throw up."
With tailgates and cut-offs being most country artist bread and butter these days, its understandable that they would get a little torn by the comments. There has since been no shortage of outraged musicians weighing in on the issue. Newcomer Tyler Farr even got in on the action, when he spoke with Taste of Country:
"If someone asked me their opinion honestly … you know if Lee Brice came to me and asked me … I’ve been honest with him. And I expect him to do the same with me. But I would only give me two cents where it was asked of.”
That being said, Farr goes on to add that artist however, should be able to except criticism:
“There’s certain songs that you’re gonna record that you hope to touch people and change lives, and there’s certain songs that you know that are not going to be that serious. ;Honky Tonk Badonkadonk’ wasn’t some serious song, but it was huge! It was funny. I don’t take everything so serious.”
So what do you think? Was Zack Brown out of line or is the "Knee Deep" singer right about country music being too shallow? Let us know in the comments section below.
