Kacey Musgraves may be relatively new to the country scene, but she is already making waves. The singer/songwriter's debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, has garnered her six CMA nominations. This has her tied with pop-country sweetheart Taylor Swift. She recently stirred up controversy for her opinions on truck songs. Now it has been announced that she will be teaming up with pop artist Katy Perry for her concert.
Move over Tayler Swift, country music has a new leading lady and her name is Kacey Musgraves. Musgraves, who has been independently releasing records for over a decade now, has officially broken into the big time. Her debut studio album, Same Trailer Different Park has earned the 25-year-old the most award of anyone...except Taylor Swift, with whom she is tied. Not only is she moving in on Swifts awards she has apparently stole her gal pal Katy Perry from her as well.
Musgraves will join, Perry on stage for the We Can Survive Concert in October, along with Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, and Tegan & Sara. Perry tweeted the announcement yesterday:
"EXCITED to announce #WeCanSurvive a night at ߎ攈E HOLLYWOOD BOWLߎ栏ct 23rd w/ @SaraBareilles @elliegoulding @KaceyMusgraves @teganandsara..."
Musgraves is also known for her opinions which prove unconventional for a country artist. The libertarian is pro-gay, pro-pot and anti-trucks. She was asked in the August issue of GQ, "What musical trend needs to die out immediately?"
The young starlit responded:
"Anyone singing about trucks, in any form, in any song, anywhere. Literally just stop - nobody cares! It's not fun to listen to. I thought dubstep was cool for two seconds - but that can go away now too. It sounds like a malfunction of some kind."
Still, Musgraves proves that you don't need a truck to make it to the top of the country music scene.
