NBC Fall Lineup: 'The Blacklist' Premiers After 'The Voice,' Featuring 'Avengers' James Spader

Tonight is the night. Its the premiere of NBC's fall lineup. The network has one big night in store, starting off with the Season 5 premiere of The Voice, leading up to the debut episode of the highly-anticipated new drama, The Blacklist staring Avengers 2 villain, James Spader.

NBC is planning to start its fall season off right, with one of the networks highest-rated shows, The Voice. The reality singing competition hosted by Carson Daly, begins it's highly popular, "Blind Auditions" tonight. The contestants tryout for the coaches sight unseen--a nitch move that helps separate this show from all the others.

Anthor great spin on the genre, is the fact that the show's judges (or coaches as they are called) compete against each other by selecting and training their talent. All the original coaches are returning this year, including Cee lo Green and Christina Aguilera, who were replaced last year by Shakira and Usher. The show's only two consistent coaches, as well as the only winners, one-time champ Adam Levine and three-time winner Blake Shelton, are also back for the fifth season.

Following The Voice debut is the episode of the Blacklist, staring James Spader. In the show, Spader plays Raymond "Red" Reddington, a Hannibal Lecter-like criminal master mind, working alongside an FBI officer. In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Spader spoke about the character:

"He amused me. He has such a strange and enigmatic life, and I liked the fact that the show could surprise you and be sort of thrilling, and yet, at the same time, have a sense of humor and irreverence...Sometimes good people do terribly bad things. And sometimes bad people do terribly good things. And he's both of those. He's both of those at different times."

Spader, who stared alongside William Shatner in the legal drama, The Practice, and it's spin-off, Boston Legal, won Emmy awards for his performance on both series. He also briefly took over NBC's The Office, when he played the eccentric yet strangely charming Robert California.

The three time Emmy winning actor isn't only going to be taking over the small screen. Spader has also been cast as the big bad in Joss Whedon's 2015 Avengers: The Age of Ultron. In an interview for Marvel's The Watcher, Whedon praised the actor:

"Spader was my first and only choice. He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous."

The Voice premiers tonight at 8pm followed by The Blacklist at 10pm on NBC.
