Avengers Spin-Off 'Agents of S.H I.E.L.D.' Premiers, Coulson Lives [SPOILERS]

It's almost here! Just one more day before the premiere of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. The Avengers spin-off, brought to us by writer/director and all around geek legend, Joss Whedon, is one of the fall's most anticipated new shows. Fans everywhere will undoubtedly be turning in the find out just how Coulson lives.

A lot of mystery surrounds the super secret spy agency called the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, or S.H.I.E.L.D. for short. However, the mystery most fans want to get to the bottom of is how did Agent Phil Coulson survive his supposed death in Avengers?

Agent Coulson has appeared in several of Marvel's films as well as in the animated series, Ultimate Spiderman, played by actor Clark Gregg. His "death" in Avengers is what made the rag tag group of heroes join together. (Although it's inconceivable to think that the group would have just sat back and let millions die, if he would have lived.) Now, it's apparent that Coulson is back from the dead...but how you ask?

First things first, this is a series based on comic books. In comics, just like soap operas, no one ever stays dead--except for Spiderman's uncle Ben. What we do know from early scenes is that Nick Fury some how managed to fake Coulson's death. The why we know, as for the how, we will have to wait until Tuesday. Still, the whole truth could take it bit longer as the New York Post reports, Greg Clark hinted:

“Phil Coulson knows exactly what happened on the heli-carrier and the way that Director Fury used it to direct The Avengers. What’s clear is there’s a whole lot more to the story than that. I absolutely believe that’s [a story line] that will become something. I really love playing the guy. He’s a combo platter of snarky sarcasm with superheroes, and he occasionally gets to do some scary stuff that I really enjoy. This world that we’re showing needs someone who doesn’t have superpowers, who can be stabbed and hurt. That’s what made me sign on to the show: this is a role that people around the world have embraced. That’s really moving and fun for me.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiers Tuesday September 24 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
