Orchestral covers of popular songs are hardly considered an oddity. Thus, in conjunction with pop-classical, a YouTube video has surfaced of composer Nick Proch and a 35-piece orchestra covering Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade."
This isn't Proch's first endeavor into appropriating popular music to a stringed orchestra. In 2014, the Arizona artist launched a Kickstarter to fun his rendition of '90s cliché rock, which included none other than Pearl Jam's "Black."
He even released a teaser cover of the Machine's other hit "Killing in the Name." With all the hype, Proch met his Kickstarter goal because, as Death and Taxes put it, "that s**t goes viral."
Proch told the New York Daily News about the project, saying, "'Bulls on Parade' has always been one of my favorite Rage Against the Machine songs, and every time I listened to it, I thought that the energy and aggression in the song could translate very well to orchestra if done well."
Along with his newest renditions, Proch has also made a name for himself for arranging other hits into orchestral fixtures like the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis song "Thrift Shop," Katy Perry's "ET" and the Imagine Dragons' smash, "It's Time."
Proch continued, "For 'Bulls on Parade,' it was a bit more simple than some of the other (arrangements) in that I knew that I had to give my trumpets the lion's share of the vocals and let them scream the last set of 'Bulls on Parade!' lyrics at the end."
As its been noted, "Bulls on Parade" came out in 1996 and has been featured on many a-format, including the interactive guitar-shredding phenomenon, Guitar Hero. The song was voted number 15 on VH1's list of Top 40 Metal Songs.
