Flash Coming to 'Arrow:' Get Up to Speed on Grant Gustin, Spin-Off And More

It was revealed last week that the Scarlet Speedster is coming to Arrow. So we're here to catch up any Flash fans who may have gotten left behind. Last week, it was announced that Glee star Grant Gustin has signed on to play Barry Allen in the DC Comics' TV action/drama and a possible spin-off.

Grant Gustin, best known as Sebastian on the Fox musical comedy Glee, will step into the shoes of beloved superhero Barry Allen/The Flash. For those of you unfamiliar with the comic character, the CW has released a description:

"A Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante.”

The Hollywood Reporter managed to catch up with the Speedster himself who told them:

“I’m unbelievably excited. I’ve been a lifelong fan of DC Comics, so I can’t be more honored and can’t wait to get started."

As his moniker suggests, The Flash is blessed with the gift of super speed. This serves as a slight problem, as there is no such things as superpowers in the Arrow universe. Barry will reportedly first arrive in Starling City without his signature speed, but in order for the superhero to spin-off he must first become super. Arrow co-creator Andrew Kreisberg addressed the issue with reporters.

"There will be extraordinary events in the world and the characters will react in the same way,"

The new season of Arrow airs Oct 9th at 8pm on the CW. Gustin, who won't appear until later in the season, is scheduled to begin filming in late September.
