'Thor: The Dark World' News: 'Avengers' Joss Whedon Saves The Day, Writes For Movie [UPDATE]

Forget Billy Batson, Joss Whedon is the new Captain Marvel. The writer/director has taken the lead on several Marvel projects, including 2012's The Avengers, the upcoming Avengers: The Age of Ultron and the ABC TV series, Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. Now it has been revealed that he also had a hand in writing Thor: The Dark World. Director Alan Taylor in a recent interview with SFX, shed some light on just how Whedon saved The Dark World.

Some might say that Joss Whedon is a superhero. The creator of the cult classics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse and Firefly, has been a hero to geeks everywhere for years. Now Whedon can add Thor: The Dark World's director, Alan Taylor, to the list.

Alan Taylor might not be a household name but he's no slouch either. The director has quite the impressive resume, including hit shows, Lost, Game of Thrones, Broadway Empire, Deadwood, The West Wing, and Mad Men, just to name a few. Still, we all need a little help every now and again, as evident by Taylor's recent admittance to SFX:

"Joss came in to save our lives a couple of times. We had a major scene that was not working on the page at all in London, and he basically got airlifted in, like a SWAT team or something. He came down, rewrote the scene, and before he got back to his plane I sort of grabbed him and said 'And this scene and this scene?' and he rewrote two other scenes that I thought had problems. And we shot the scenes and they were just much better and much lighter on their feet. Much more fun, much more surprising than what we had been trying to do."

What a great guy that Joss Whedon! Check out the film and see if you can spot the Whedon scenes. Thor: The Dark World opens November 8th.
