Country star and American Idol judge Keith Urban has the number one album...and not just for country music. Urban's newest record, Fuse, currently sits atop the Billboard 200.
This isn't Urban's first record to receive the all-genre honor. His 2009 release, Defying Gravity, was also a chart topper.
The Grammy award winner is perhaps best known for his hit songs: "You'll Think of Me," "Days Go By," and "You Gonna Fly," just to name a few. Urban, who is married to actress Nicole Kidman, has also found success as a judge on American Idol.
Its not too suprising that the country-rocker has managed to find across-the-board success. Just like the hit single off his new album suggests, "A Little Bit of Everything," is just what you are going to get when you listen to his new record. The 45-year-old's eighth studio record, aptly titled Fuse, has the country artist collaborating with artists across genres--including writing two songs with producer Mike Elizondo. Urban spoke with Calendar about the crossover:
“In some ways, he was really the starting point for this record. He was the first non-country guy I reached out to."
Elizondo is best know for his rap artists like Eminem and Dr. Dre. That was part of the reason why Urban was drawn to him:
"I love a lot of the Dr. Dre stuff [that Elizondo has] worked on over the years. I’ve probably gone many times to work with programmers who can program like that, so this time I thought, 'Why am I working with guys who can program like Mike?' So I liberated myself completely by going to the source and working with the original.”
Fellow country cross over artist Sheryl Crow manged to make an impressive showing. Landing in the number seven spot for her debut country record, Feels like Home.
Urban's latest album Fuse is available now, wherever records are sold.
