The Class of 2013 is getting bigger and bigger. Last week, we reported that troubled actor Charlie Sheen finally received his high school diploma, after being expelled more then 30 years ago. This week, 42-year-old dropout/actor Mark Wahlberg joined the new graduate.
Mark Wahlberg started his life off with a bad rap, and we're not talking about his days as Marky Mark. The rapper-turned-actor made a lot of bad decisions as a child. After leaving the then up-and-coming boy band, New Kids On The Block, he embarked on a life of crime. He became addicted to drugs and grew increasingly violent, almost killing a man. He was charged with attempted murder when he was 16-years-old and served 45 days in jail out of a two year sentence. Because of his crimes and conviction, Walberg was never able to finish high school...Until now that is.
Walberg has certainly cleaned up his act and come a long way from his regrettable past. The father of four decided his successes weren't enough and sought out to receive his long overdue high school diploma, to set a proper example for his children. The actor/producer told People Magazine about his newly earned accolade:
"I didn't want the kids saying, 'You didn't do it, so why do I need it?' They are all wanting to do things in their future that require an education....It's also a huge sense of relief. I wondered, 'Why didn't I do it when I was there?' It's so much harder at 41 going back and trying to do all these difficult tasks."
Wahlberg isn't finished with his example setting education just yet, adding:
"I would love to go to USC and study film. I don't want to become a veterinarian or anything, [I want to study] things that further my career and broaden my horizon."
