Country artist Zack Brown is getting sick of country music. The Grammy award winner had a lot to say about the state of the genre in a recent interview with Canadian radio station JRFM and Luke Bryan in particular.
In a recent interview, Zack Brown voiced a strong opinion against country music clichés, telling listeners:
“There’s not a lot of the country format that I really enjoy listening to. If I hear one more tailgate-in-the-moonlight, Daisy Duke song, I'm gonna throw up."
Unfortunately, these types are the rage amongst country fans, as evidenced by fellow artist Luke Bryan's new hit, "That's My Kind of Night," on which Brown commented:
“I love Luke Bryan and he’s had some great songs, but this new song is the worst song I’ve ever heard. I see it being giant commercially successful in what is called country music these days, but I also feel like the people deserve something better than that. Country fans and country listeners deserve to have something better ... a song that really has something to say, something that makes you feel something. Good music makes you feel something."
Brown later clarified his comments on Twitter: "My opinion is not about Luke as an artist, it's about that song. He didn't write it. I'm a fan of Luke, but definitely not that song."
Brown is a highly acclaimed artist best known for his hit songs: "Chicken Fried", "Toes", "As She's Walking Away," "Colder Weather," "Knee Deep," "Keep Me In Mind," "Goodbye in Her Eyes" and "Jump Right In."
So what do you think about Browns comments? Can country clichés survive or is there a need for something deeper in today's world? Tell us what you think in the comments section below. We want to know.
