Sunny Leone Blamed for All Rape in India by Communist Indian Politician

Atul Kumar Anjan, head of the Communist Party in India, is blaming all rape in India on former porn star turned Bollywood actress, Sunny Leone. More specifically, the politician places the blame on her participation in advertisements for a brand of condoms. Apparently, at least as it appears from Anjan's statements, in his worldview, men don't have any free will and are helpless to hormonal urges like common field animals.

However, this seems par for the course, at least in the opinion the website O Politics. The author boils it down simply and quickly, "There is a simple guide to being a true Indian politician. When in doubt, talk about sex. Yes, sex. It doesn't matter how silly the argument is; how ludicrous the statement is, sex sells. Before you know it, TV cameras will be beamed at you, demanding to know just what you meant, and hey, presto you are a politico star." Rather than bringing awareness to an important social issue, it appears that all Anjan is seeking is fame and media attention and he doesn't care how he gets it.

Anjan eventually backtracked on his words and apologized to Leone for saying she was personally responsible for all the rape cases, that but he had gotten his fifteen minutes of fame and that's apparently all that mattered. He still thought the condom commercials were morally reprehensible, but that doesn't appear to be the point. The more important angle? That everyone knew the name of the head of the Communist party in India.

Leone, for her part, took their moral high road and couldn't help but laugh at all the attention being paid to her over the ridiculous statements of a formerly obscure politician. In an article appearing on the website the Business Standard, Leone was quoted as saying, " It's sad when people of power waste their time and energy on me, instead of focusing on helping those in need!!!"
