Time for yet another update in the Paula Deen racial slur scandal. America’s once-favorite chef broke down and started crying in Texas. The Southern cook was overwhelmed by the support of her loving fans.
Paula Deen made her first public appearance since admitting to using the N-word back in June on September 14. Of course, the celebrity chef has appeared on TV since then.
She served as a special judge on an episode of Master Chef. The bit, of course, was recorded prior to the high-profile scandal that seemed to wreck her illustrious career.
1500 fans greeted Paula with a standing ovation on Saturday when she appeared at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertainment Show at Reliant Center in Houston. After seeing that level of support and enthusiasm, Deen broke down on stage.
After noticeably sobbing, Deen is reported to have said:
“These are tears of joy, y'all. I've said all along that the one place I'd want to make my first step back out is Texas. Y'all's hearts are as big as your state."
This comes as welcome news to Deen, who has watched her food empire crumble in recent months. Many analysts claim that it cost Paula tens of millions.
The support she received didn’t just come from her white fans either. African-Americans also showed up to support the embattled cook, as Fox News reports:
“Sherry Carter and her daughters, Shana Randle and Michelle Sanders, were among a handful of African-Americans in attendance for the de facto Deen fete. ‘When I first heard about it, my feeling was, she got caught," Carter reportedly said. "Just about everyone I know has used the word. At least she was honest about it."
