Fifty Shades of Grey fans did not react well when E.L. Jame’s revealed her casting choice for Ana and Christian. The upcoming movie will feature Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam. This decision didn’t sit well with many fans of the book series, who responded with a series of angry posts and tweets.
For a while, it seemed that E.L James was untouchable. The author reached millionaire status seemingly overnight and has been riding the train of fame ever since.
Readers’ love affair with the writer may have come to an end after she announced who would be getting it on in the film adaptation of her erotic novel. Charlie Hunnam will be taking on the role of Christian Grey, while Anastasia Steele will be played by Dakota Johnson.
Most people know Charlie for his role on the hit-cable show Sons of Anarchy. Dakota, on the other hand, is known for her role as...well...um, being Melanie Griffith’s real-life daughter.
Neither selection seemed to delight fans of the book. When it comes to Charlie, one fan said:
“Charlie is not what many of the fans would have wanted, and that’s sadly going to hurt the movie! When it was announced that an old-looking blond man was playing the role, E.L. James lost a movie fan in me.”
Dakota didn’t fair much better, with most wondering simply who she was. One user declared:
“Casting Dakota as as tiny, delicate, big eyed, pretty-faced Anna is a disgrace to the character.”
