The season of the Witch is upon us. The third installment of FX's highly-anticipated anthology series, American Horror Story, is almost here. The new season ,subtitled Coven, features a killer cast of women, lead by Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett. A chilling new teaser trailer has been released this week and just in time for Friday the 13th.
There are few shows like American Horror Story. The seasional anthology series starts and ends a whole new story line each year. The show's self-contained seasons allow for a plethora of plot twists each year. The ensemble cast all plays different characters in different settings, starting fresh each year. This also allows for fan favorite actors to be killed off without warning and revived the following October.
Of course, the ever changing backdrops have become a great source of buzz for the series. Half the fun is rewatching episodes to find clues for where the show will take us next year.
The new season American Horror Story: Coven finds us following a group of witches from 19th century Salem to modern day New Orleans. It's there that the chilling new teaser takes place.
Set to an eerie cover of the traditional song, "House of the Rising Sun," we see a small army of would-be witches gathering for what one can only assume is some sort of school of witchcraft. Stepping over a shirtless man wearing a pig head, they are greeted by veteran AHS star Sarah Palson. Amongst the throng is Taissa Farmiga, who started in the first season but was absent through out the second.
That's another good thing about the show's format. You never know who is going to show up.
As we go further into the school, we are met by our three head mistresses, returning star Jessica Lange, who is accompanied this year by Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett.
The show, credited by Glee and Nip/Tuck's Ryan Murphy premiers its third season Oct 9, at 10 p.m. on FX. For those of you can't wait for "school," check out the new trailer.
