Trent Richardson's NFL Career Over with Release from Oakland Raiders?

Trent Richardson was signed earlier this offseason by the Oakland Raiders, but unfortunately it was announced that he has been released. It is an all-new low for his career, and there is no question that the former Alabama Crimson Tide star running back is facing what could be the end of his career. He has been a major disappointment to say the least, and his opportunity with the Raiders very well could have been his last. Could this mean his NFL career is completely over?

It seems strange to talk about a 25-year-old running back ending his career, but that certainly could be the case for Richardson. He showed flashes of brilliance during his rookie season with the Cleveland Browns, but has been an absolute nightmare since then.

After being traded to the Indianapolis Colts, Richardson became one of the NFL's biggest busts. He played two absolutely pitiful seasons for the Colts, and made them regret trading a first-round pick for him. Not being able to make a Raiders roster that didn't have very good running backs on the depth chart showed just how big of a bust he is at this stage in his career.

Richardson has a 3.3 yards per carry average throughout his career to this point, which is one of the biggest indications of his failures.

Perhaps the biggest reason for Richardson's lack of success is due to the fact that he has been of shape. He got into trouble with the Colts last season for being overweight, and missed the last few games of the season.

Looking ahead at the future, it is very unlikely that Richardson is going to be able to find another team willing to give him a chance after this. There are more talented running backs in free agency that haven't been able to find jobs yet. Richardson may want to continue his career, but getting a contract isn't easy at all.

Needless to say, this is a fitting way to end the disappointing young career that Richardson has had. There is still a chance that he can turn his career around with hard work and a lot of dedication, but he hasn't shown any of that to this point.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening in the future for Richardson. This move by the Raiders certainly doesn't bode well for Richardson's future, but there is always a chance that he could change his mind set and get back to working hard and improving his game. While that is always a possibility, it wouldn't be wise to hold your breath for that to happen.
