JJ Abrams Choosing 'Star Wars' Over 'Star Trek': 'Lost' Creator Leaves The Enterprise For The Darkside

If we learned anything from the TV show Lost, its that J.J.Abrams doesn't know how to finish what he starts. Abrams is now admitting his new role as director of 2015's Star Wars Episode Seven will prevent him from finishing out Star Trek 3. Now that Abrams has joined the dark side, who will helm the Enterprise?

The announcement was officially confirmed in an interview with Collider. J. J. Abrams talked about having to step down from his role as director of Star Trek 3, when he revealed:

"It’s a little bittersweet. But, I will say that I’m going to be producing the movie. Whomever it is that directs the film will be someone we all know is going to keep the cast and crew in good hands. I feel very lucky to have been part of it, and it definitely feels like the right time to let someone come in and do their own thing. I certainly don’t want someone to come in and try to do what I would have done. We want to hire someone who’s gonna come in and bring their own sensibility. I’m very excited to see what comes next, despite feeling jealous of whomever that person is."

Abrams was the man responsible for bringing Star Trek into the 21st Century with 2009's Star Trek reboot and its follow up 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness. Now Abrams will be responsible for restarting yet anther Sci-fi classic when he directs 2015's highly-anticipated Star Wars Episode Seven.

When the Star Wars franchise was sold to Disney last year, George Lucas released a statement to the press concerning his future successor:

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm. It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime."

There is still no word on who Abrams' Star Trek successor will be, however, he will still be staying on as a producer.
