Breaking Bad only has a few episodes left, leaving many fans of the highly-addictive meth drama jonesing for a fix. However, there is good news for anyone going through BB withdrawal. AMC has officially announced a spin-off series titled, Better Call Saul. Despite Saul Goodman's new beginning, the prequel leaves open the possibility that the character could still die before the current series ends.
AMC and Sony Pictures recently released a joint statement, confirming widespread rumors of a Breaking Bad spin off:
"As conceived, the new series is based on the show's popular Saul Goodman character with the working title Better Call Saul. Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character [played by Bob Odenkirk] before he ever became Walter White's lawyer."
Better Call Saul, will focus on Saul Goodman's, pre-Walter White, life, meaning the character could still die in the few remaining episodes of Breaking Bad.
Show creator Vince Gilligan teased the idea of the spin off to Deadline.com over a year ago:
"I would love to see a Saul Goodman spinoff. I can’t say that it is genuinely in the works at this moment, but certainly Bob Odenkirk and I have talked about it a little bit. I can’t promise that it will ever happen, but I think I personally, as fan number one of this world, meaning the first one to partake of these plot moments and whatnot, I personally would love to tune in and see a good Saul Goodman show. I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He’ll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun--I would like that."
