Disney has announced that the studio is pushing back the release date for the fifth installment of it's Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. The newest addition to the series, subtitled Dead Men Tell No Tales, was expected to hit theaters July 10, 2015. The sinking of Pirates leaves a sizable hole in the studio's summer. Luckily production of Marvel's Ant-man, has already been pushed up.
The Pirate's franchise has proven to be box office treasure. The first four films in the series have already raked in over $3.7 billion.
Sean Bailey, Disney's production president spoke to Deadline.com about the delay:
"Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrow's next adventure and we want to have all the right elements in place," Sean Bailey told the website. "We're not there yet and we want to make sure this project is everything these wonderful characters and, of course, the fans deserve."
The website also alleges star Johnny Depp's busy schedule as a possible secondary reason for the set back. Depp is currently working the film adaptation of the musical Into the Woods and the sequel to Disney' s Alice in Wonderland.
Don't cry just yet fan boys and fan girls. Disney still has ,plenty of adult friendly action in store for 2015 summer season. Joss Whedon' s follow up film, Avengers: The Age of Ultron is sure to please audiences. Fellow Avenger Ant-man has also been pulled into the summer schedule.
Dr. Hank "'Ant-man"' Pym is a super scientist, who acquires size altering powers. Ant-man was created in 1962 by the legendary comic team of writer, Stan Lee and artist, Jack Kirby. The character has since become a long running member of the Avengers.
Ant-man's new release date is expected to be July 31, 2015.
