Katy Perry has recently insinuated that her new hit, “Roar,” was about her past break up with John Mayer. It’s no secret that before there was talk of a 2013 wedding, the “Fireworks” singer and John had to work out their issues. Check out the video of her new music video below.
Katy Perry and John Mayer may be warm and cozy with one another now, but this wasn’t the case a few months ago. Earlier in the year, the two had a well publicized split and were at odds with one another.
A few months later, things seemed to change for the celebrity couple. They rekindled their relationship and even recorded a few songs together.
This doesn’t mean that Katy was left unscathed by the incident. As the singer revealed to Radio 1:
“Roar is a song I wrote as I was a little bit upset. I found myself having a break with my boyfriend, who I loved very much and it really hurt my heart. I said to myself, 'I need to see what is going on with me and make sure I'm all good.'”
Turns out Perry is definitely “all good,” especially if music sales are taken into account. The 28-year-old singer’s new song is now number one in the UK. Last week, her single sold nearly 200,000 copies and made significant gains on Billboard.
The recent success may be responsible for Katy’s continued evaluation of herself. The actress noted that you can’t put all of the blame for relationship trouble on one person:
When you break up with someone it's easy to say they are crazy and think it's all them, but, honestly, maybe there is 50 per cent responsibility on your behalf. It was just time for me to be honest with myself.”
