Is Jack Nicholson Quitting Acting? Alzheimer’s Rumors NOT True Says Source, Retirement Claims FALSE [UPDATE]

An increased number of reports are claiming that Jack Nicholson is quitting acting. Rumors surrounding the legendary screen actor claim that he is suffering from memory loss and potentially Alzheimer’s. Recently, however, friends have come his defense claiming that the retirement chatter is not true, and Nicholson’s memory is just fine.

A source close to the 76-year-old actor told the New York Post that the gossip surrounding Jack’s memory loss is “totally false.” Unfortunately, this is the only source claiming that Mr. Nicholson’s memory is fine.

Star, the U.S. gossip magazine, was among the first to claim that Jack was suffering from Alzheimer’s and was incapable of acting. A source familiar with the situation revealed that Jack could no longer remember his lines and has given up his longtime proffession:

“Jack’s still a character and as crazy as ever, but his memory isn’t what it used to be--and he knows it. That’s why he decided to quietly stop making films. The last thing he wants is for people to make a big deal about the memory loss or, God forbid, try to organize a pitiful tribute. No one in Jack’s tight-knit camp is uttering the words ‘Alzheimer’s’ or ‘dementia.’”

Of course, not all of his friends share such an optimistic outlook. An insider told the gossip magazine that the Nicholson family may be living in denial:

“For Jack to stop working at all is a huge red flag to his friends, who are very afraid. They think he and his family are in denial. The truth is, the man is 76--and there are very serious concerns about Alzheimer’s.”

Reports issued by Radar Online didn’t fair much better, as another industry insider claimed:

"There is a simple reason behind his decision – it's memory loss. Quite frankly, at 76, Jack has memory issues and can no longer remember the lines being asked of him. Jack has no intention of retiring from the limelight. He's not retiring from public life, at all. He just doesn't want a tribute. He's happy to tacitly join the retirees' club, like Sean Connery."
