County music legend George Strait is retiring. Well, sort of. The megastar announced earlier this year that 2014 would be his last year on the road. The singer released more details on monday about his farewell tour, including tour dates and a list of the country music stars he is planning on taking with him as he rides off into the sunset.
Strait's aptly titled The Cowboy Rides Away Tour marks the end of his days on the open road, but he's not going it alone.
The legendary artist held a press conference via his website on Monday morning to announce just who will be joining him on stage.
The list reads likes a who's whom of some of country music's biggest names: fellow legends Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Martina McBride, Lee Ann Womack and Ronnie Dunn, relatively newer artists such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Chris Young and new country-crossover artist Sheryl Crow.
Sorry to disappoint the fans whose mouths are surely watering at this festival-like dream list of opening acts; a different act from the list will open for George each week.
At the web conference, George Strait also reminisced about his life on the road:
"The first leg of the tour earlier this year was very fun, but also very emotional...every city and venue holds such great memories. I'm really looking forward to seeing our fans out on the road in 2014."
The King of County might not be touring much longer, but have no fear--the 61-year-old still plans on putting out at least five more albums in the future.
