Tenor Marco Voleri Recovering After Stage Collapse During Puccini Festival in Italy

After a most unfortunate series of circumstances, tenor Marco Voleri is fortunately not paralyzed or too seriously injured after an accident with the stage injured the singer. During a performance of Turandot at the Puccini Festival in Italy, a platform collapsed and sent Voleri down a 6-foot drop.

Perhaps more tragic than the play itself, the incident happened at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Italy on Aug. 7 when a cable snapped and caused Voleri to fall a great distance.

The performance, of course, was halted and firefighters soon arrived on the scene. He was transported to a local hospital in Versilia, where it was stated that he had suffered a spinal fracture.

However, on Sunday afternoon as WQXR reports, the tenor was transferred to a hospital in Livorno, his hometown, for operation on his "fourth lumbar vertebra."

Once he was able to walk again, Voleri connected with his fans through Facebook and said, "I can claim to have had a miracle. I will leave the hospital with my legs functioning. I could have been paralyzed for life or I could have landed on my head, which at a fall of almost three meters, would have had me already in the grave. For this, I thank God and all of you who have constantly warmed my heart with your message and your closeness to me."

Our best wishes to Voleri for a speedy recovery and a swift return to the stage.

As of late, Voleri has published a book entitled Sintomi di felicità (Symtoms of Happiness) in which he describes his passion for music coupled with multiple sclerosis and how it has affected his career.

So keep him in your thoughts and listen to the singer below in the meantime.
