Ian McKellen Marries Patrick Stewart: 'X-Men' Villain Officiates Co-Star's Wedding to Sunny Ozell

Here's a headline comic book fans never thought they would see: Magneto marries Professor X. That's right, X-Men: Days of Future Past star Patrick Stewart tied the knot to Sunny Ozell on Sunday, and his X-Men co-star Ian McKellen helped him tie it. The villain-turned-minister officiated the wedding.

Actor Sir Patrick Stewart, best known for his roles as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Captain Jean-Luc Picard and comic book icon Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film franchise, got married on Sunday. The 73-year-old wed 35-year-old singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell after dating for five years.

The newlyweds' nuptials were performed by Stewart's fellow X-Men cast member and good friend, Sir Ian McKellen. McKellen is known by younger fans as either Magneto, from the aforementioned X-series, or Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings franchise.

The openly gay actor joked about his official role in the ceremonies on the The Jonathan Ross Show back in March, saying:

"I am going to marry Patrick. Well, no, how else do you put that? I am going to officiate at his wedding,"

The joyous news not only brings the newly pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Stewart delight, but also the millions of fans who are happy to see some of their favorite fantasy characters get the chance to live happily ever after.

After taking their vows, Patrick and Sunny had a ball--literally--by jumping into a ball pit.

Stewart and McKellen will join forces once again in the upcoming film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The seventh installment in the X-Men series is due in theaters on May 23, 2014.

As for Stewart and Sunny, we here at Classicalite wish the happy couple all the best in their new lives together.

What do you think about the ceremony? Was it cool that Ian McKellen married the couple, or do you think it was just a gimmick to generate buzz?
