Michael Showalter Talks Netflix ‘WHAS’ Reunion with ‘Inside Out’ Amy Poehler & Chris Meloni

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is just hours away. The beloved 2001 cult classic movie is back with an all new prequel, yes prequel, series on Netflix. The best part is every member of the original cast is back for the film including big names like Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd, Inside Out’s Amy Poehler, American Sniper’s Bradley Cooper and Law & Order: SVU Chris Meloni. Now, star and co-creator Michael Showalter is opening up about reassembling the ensemble.

Recently, Michael Showalter spoke to TV Guide about nailing down the return of the film’s cast before starting the project:

“We contacted the cast right away before we even approached Netflix and said, ‘This is something we're thinking of doing. Is this something you'd be interested in?’"

Good thing for the world and all of human history that everyone was on board. Showalter went on to explain that how everyone fell back into their parts:

“It feels like everybody jumped back in. Paul Rudd and [Amy] Poehler. I think for everybody, these characters are really specific and really, for all of us, fun characters to play, whether it's Ken Marino's character Victor or Chris Meloni playing the chef. I think for all of us, there's a little piece of us that we always remember these characters. They're big, cartoon-like characters and I think we all really enjoyed getting back into the costumes and the world and stuff... It was so crazy. It was very surreal. In a certain respect, it felt like no time had gone by, which was kind of weird. It was a total time warp. You know, 15 years goes by and all of the sudden there we were again. It was like no time had passed. It was pretty cool.”

Are you ready for the first day of camp? Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp starts streaming on Netflix at 3:00 a.m. eastern.
