Rumors that Katy Perry and John Mayer may break up in 2013 are flying. Over the weekend, the “Fireworks” singer turned down Mayer’s marriage proposal. She cited that she needed more time to heal from her recent divorce from Russell Brand, according to sources.
It has long been speculated that John Mayer would propose to Katy Perry, who he has dated off and on for quite some time. Some of the first reports came from Life and Style. According to a source that spoke to the gossip site:
"[John] has been asking Katy's friends a ton of questions. There are a lot of options on the table. Nothing is ruled out. It could happen on a romantic getaway or during a family dinner."
Turns out, it happened last week after John Mayer (in a rare, classy move) asked Perry’s super religious parents for her hand in marriage. Her mom and dad may have said yes, but Katey said no. According to a source:
“Katy loves John, but doesn’t feel she has had enough healing time since her divorce [from comedian Russell Brand]. She told him she just needed a bit more time to feel whole in herself again.”
According to a report from entertainment site Entertainmentwise, John didn’t hold up well following the proposal. An insider who spoke to the gossip site claimed:
“John’s proposal really unnerved Katy. Even though they have discussed it, she thought it was too soon. John was gutted.”
Katy and John have had their problems in the past. The couple has broken up and reunited multiple times throughout their tenuous relationship and it appears that this may be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
