Halo fans got a bit of bad news recently when it was revealed that Halo 5: Guardians will not have split-screen gameplay. However, the angry horde might find some Serenity in learning that Firefly star Nathan Fillion will be returning to the franchise.
Nathan Fillion is a geek culture legend. It was recently revealed that Fillion is returning the Haloverse in Halo 5: Guardians. However, can the Captain Hammer actor be enough to keep fans on the Halo train. Fans are very upset with Microsoft and 343 Industries because split-screen gameplay will not be featured in Halo. This is a dramatic change for gamers who have made a tradition of playing on the couch with friends.
Ars Technica recently releaed a statement from spokesperson for Microsoft who claims:
"The decision [to remove all split-screen modes] was an extremely difficult one for the team, but one that was necessary to deliver the biggest Halo game to date. 343’s focus is to ensure that fans get the best Halo experience yet, and the team felt a split-screen experience would compromise the gameplay design and the visual bar they’ve set."
Many fans have already started to cancel their pre-orders. However, maybe Nathan Fillion’s return to the franchise can help calm fans down. Fillion will be reprising his role as Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck from Halo: ODST and Halo: Reach.
Back in 2009 Nathan Fillion spoke to Comic Book Resources about his “Halo addiction:”
“I'm a Halo guy. The Bungie folks were kind enough to have me do a voice for Halo 3. So there's nothing like sitting down to a nice game of Halo and shooting at myself. I like to get online, and the reason I like it is I've got a lot of friends in Canada and New York, all over Los Angeles and at great distances. Sometimes I take off for months at a time to go work, and my social time is on that box. You put on a little headset and unwind with your friends. You hang out, you laugh, it's good times. And when it's all done, you don't have to send anybody home. No one's drunk all your beer. You just say, 'Good night, I'm going to bed,' and it's off and it's done.”
