The Transformers movie universe is expanding Marvel style, and it looks like Michael Bay might be sticking with the franchise a little longer. Recently, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg opened up about Transformers 5, slated for a 2017 release, where he seemingly confirmed Bay’s return as director.
During a recent conversation with Collider, Mark Wahlberg opened up about his return to Transformers 5, citing Michael Bay’s schedule as a factor:
“I don’t. Just that Akiva [Goldsman] and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I’m in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We’ll get together when he gets back.”
Akiva Goldsman is leading a writers room of top names that are mapping out the future of the franchise. Recently, Goldsman opened up to Deadline about the how Lost’s JJ Abrams helped inspire them :
“There is such reciprocity between TV and movies now, that we’re borrowing this from TV. I got a taste of this from JJ Abrams when I came in to write an episode of Fringe, and then Jeff Pinkner let me hang around for four years like the drunk uncle. The whole process of the story room was really delightful, and we are seeing it more in movies as this moves toward serialized storytelling.”
