Time for another update in the crazy Leah Remini Scientology scandal. Turns out she wasn’t the only celebrity the church wanted. They tried recruiting Brad Pitt and Bono to an already impressive roster, that includes celebrities like: Tom Cruise, Beck and John Travolta.
These latest revelations came from Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of the controversial leader David Miscavige. She recently wrote a book about escaping the secretive church.
In her interview with Radar Online, the author reveals that Brad Pitt was briefly courted by the church when he was dating Juliette Lewis (who is still a Scientologist). He quickly left, after realizing the “religion” wasn’t for him.
Hill tells the gossip site:
“There’s a celebrity strategy and they’re targeted for their influence, not their money. They know people are obsessed with celebrities so will get more interested in Scientology. I think that celebrities are more inclined to be egocentric and Scientology caters for that--you’re your own God. They’re probably being told that all the time.”
“But they’re probably insecure, so the self-help of Scientology lends itself to that. And Scientology is meant to save people and the world, so the charitable thing appeals to a celebrity. If you’re egocentric, not always confident or insecure because of being in public eye and want to be charitable, Scientology pushes your buttons.”
Mrs. Hill isn’t the only ex-Scientologist to write a book. Leah Remini, who left the church earlier in the summer, is planning a tell-all book that will detail her experience in the sue-happy church.
Remini is still concerned for the health of Shelly Miscavige, who has not been seen in public for six years. After filing a missing persons report, it was revealed that Shelly Miscavige was seen by a law enforcement officer, though no further information was provided.
