Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly and Geraldo Rivera make headlines for discussing the Chris Lane murder controversy. Bill and Geraldo deny that the crime was racially motivated and continued to make painfully awkward assertions on O’Reilly’s hit news show.
If there’s one group of people who really know how to capture the heart of race related issues, it’s definitely old white conservatives. And when they’re not busy fighting gay rights and anything wearing a hoodie, that’s exactly what they do.
The latest example of this comes from Pappa Bear O’Reilly’s number one rated show, The O’Reilly Factor. His recent claims, however, may surprise his target audience.
On Thursday’s show, O’Reilly had on Geraldo Rivera. You guys remember Geraldo, right? It’s the guy who gave away U.S. troop locations in Afghanistan and was forced to leave the war torn-country by the military. He also took a shirtless selfie and posted on Twitter recently.
The two were covering the tragic murder of Chris Lane. O’Reilly decided to open the dialogue by saying:
“The collapse of the family is leading to horror all over this country. Each one of these kids have dysfunctional families, it’s a chaotic situation, and they act out by killing this poor 22-year-old guy.”
Rivera agreed and added that it would be difficult to make this out to be a racially motivated crime. In a moment of clarity, Papa Bear added:
“I don’t even think it’s important. I don’t think this is a racial crime. I think this is a crime of three teenagers simply out of control.” He said the “de-emphasis of the traditional family” spans “all colors, white, black, whatever. This cuts across race.”
“We have a subculture in this country and all colors are involved, children, alright, from terrible families, derelict parents, who don’t care anymore. They’re not going to be able to work. They’re not going to be able to be in the American marketplace. They don’t care. They’re covered with tattoos. They’re taking drugs. They’re playing video games all day long. And no one in the media is calling it what it is.”
If it wasn’t for marijuana (which is clinically shown to relax people) and video games (which have never caused harm to anyone) then America wouldn’t be in the shape it's in.
Thanks Bill and Geraldo for helping us finally recognize the problem!
