It looks like Paul Fig is going to be making the only Ghostbusters reboot after all, as Channing Tatum and production partner, Reid Carolin, have both publicly admitted that the project has been indefinitely put on hold due to its "complexity." According to the latest gossip news updates, Magic Mike is still gung ho about his up-and-coming Marvel debut as the X-MEN's smooth talking Gambit. Although Jonah Hill's 22 Jump Street bestie claimed that he wasn't going to be breaking out his new character for the latest Apocalypse film, Carolin recently revealed that the ex-stripper has already been hard at work learning how to throw playing cards, just like his iconic comic book hero.
Despite the hype and recent media controversy, word has it that Channing Tatum and his Jump Street team won't be launching their own reboot of Ghostbusters after all.
In the same interview with Howard Stern last week in which he talked about the possibility of someday having a threesome with Game of Throne actress Emilia Clarke, UpRoxx reports, Channing explained that things have " gotten messy" concerning his Ghostbusters reboot.
Likewise Tatum's writing and producing partner, Reid Carolin, admitted outright to Screen Rant that all plans to make their own version of the classic comedy were being abandoned for the time being, thanks to Paul Fig's beating them to the punch (via UpRoxx):
"We're not doing that anymore.
"No, I don't think so, I think it's too complicated.
"There's a lot of things going on with that brand and I just feel like it's over-saturated."
Thankfully, Channing joining the X-MEN franchise has been controversy-free, so he is still reportedly moving full-steam ahead with his plans to play Gambit in his very own Marvel spin-off.
Reid went on to explain that not only was Channing working on perfecting his Cajun accent, Tatum's even spending his free time making sure that not all the character's signature card throwing is going to have to be CGI'd (via CinemaBlend):
"[Hearing the accent] probably is a spoiler, but you should ask him...I don't think he has it yet.
"Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do sleight of hand and all that."
Hopefully sometime in the future there will be as much room in the Ghostbusters franchise as there is the Marvel universe, so the fans won't have to wait for social politics to green light each and every sequel.
