It is usually Angelina Jolie, who may or may not be pregnant, that is known for making headlines. This week, however, it was the doctor who oversaw Jolie’s mastectomy surgery. The now famous surgeon gave an interview, while Jolie continues to plan her wedding to partner Brad Pitt.
It has been a really busy year for Angelina Jolie. At the first of the year, she underwent a preventative double mastectomy, to help prevent getting the same cancer that killed her mother. In May, she made headlines for announcing the controversial procedure.
For weeks, she has been on the cover of nearly every tabloid, that all say the actress is pregnant (some even claiming with twins). And, lastly, the award-winning actress is planning her wedding with Brad Pitt. The ceremony is expected to occur later this year, at the end of summer.
With all this going on, it is amazing that it’s her surgeon who generated the most press this week.
Dr. Kristi Funk, of the renowned Pink Lotus Breast Center, sat down with Los Angeles Magazine. The surgeon opened up on what it was like to operate on a world famous star and how Angelina Jolie has helped spread the word on an often misunderstood (and life saving) procedure.
Among other things, Dr. Funk praised Jolie on the level of awareness she was able to create by making the announcement, telling the magazine:
"When someone who is arguably the most beautiful woman in the world removes the part of her body that is symbolic of femininity and sexuality, you have to say, 'Why would she do that?'"
Dr. Kristi goes on to say that this was the only logical step for Jolie, who is philanthropic and spends most of her time trying to better the world:
"She knew always that in her philanthropic core she couldn't keep this a secret and be who she is. She always knew."
Luckily, Jolie is rumored to be busy planning her wedding with love, Brad Pitt. The latest speculations come out of Marie Claire, which claim that the couple will be saying “I Do,” aboard a giant boat. An insider revealed to the magazine:
“It was Maddox who came up with the idea of the ship. He came across it after looking back at photos of the Carnell Estate in Ayrshire, where they stayed and all loved. So now they’ve made enquiries into booking the whole vessel. It’s just what they’re after. It can hold up to 50 of their friends and family and serve as a traditional, romantic setting--all totally private. Or they could always sail to a secluded bay off the Orkney or Shetland islands and have the ceremony there. The kids are all hooked on old British voyages, so they would love it. The fact that Maddox found it makes it more special.”
