New Syfy ‘Defiance’ Season 3 Episode Spoilers: Boss Talks Xbox and PlayStation Video Game Failure

Tonight Syfy’s hit series Defiance is back with another all new Season 3 episode. Check the report below for a look sneak peek at tonight's all new episode. Recently, Syfy boss Dave Howe opened up about the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 video game based on the show, and why it failed to hits its desired mark.

The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Defiance, titled “The Broken Bough,” reads:

“Amanda negotiates with the Omec, a new alien race, for the future of Defiance; and the Tarrs return to find much changed and their loyalties tested between the humans, the Omec, and the Votanis Collective. Meanwhile, Nolan and Irisa encounter a survivor of Votanis Collective atrocities that can aid their first strike against Gen. Rahm Tak's oncoming army.”

When Defiance originally came on air, it also tied into a video game of the same now. However, the video game didn’t take off quite like the series did. Recently, Syfy president Dave Howe spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the failings of the video game:

“We built a video game together with a series -- it was a very risky, long-term project, but we need to be in the business of what's new and what's next, storytelling beyond the linear experience. The series has been very successful, the game less so, and the learning curve around immersive storytelling was incredibly powerful for us. So, the Defiance experience was incredibly fun and incredibly frustrating.”

Howe went on to add just what what wrong, adding:

“It took five years! And it took that long because the technology kept changing. It was designed to be a PC game, and then console platforms became online-capable, so we decided to launch it on PlayStation. Then suddenly we could do it on Xbox. Each time we added, it added another year to it and a level of expense to it. And the gaming space has also changed. It's now about free-to-play, so people don't want to pay for console games.”
