A&E Airs New ‘Duck Commander: Making the Musical’ Special After Las Vegas Closing

When we first heard that a Duck Dynasty musical was in production we were shocked. Less so when we heard that it closed after only a month. However, we still just had to know how this musical came about. Well tonight we finally find out. A&E is airing an all new special Duck Commander: Making the Musical.

The TV Guide preview for tonight’s special, Duck Commander: Making the Musical, reads:

“The Robertsons of the reality series ‘Duck Dynasty’ prepare to tell their family's rags-to-riches tale in the Broadway-style production ‘Duck Commander: The Musical.’ Included: Cameras go behind the scenes as the family, cast and crew get ready for opening night in Las Vegas.”

Spoiler alert: The musical didn’t last long. The show closed after little over a month. Apparently, musical theater and a homophobic dynasties don’t mix. The show opened at the Las Vegas Rio Hotel on April 15, and closed on May 17.

However, despite the musical’s one month Vegas run, the producers are holding out hope that this show is not dead in the water, as a rep told Playbill (via USA Today):

"Much has been learned from this limited engagement. ... Duck Commander will now consider several possible opportunities for the next stage in the life of the show, including extended sit-down engagements in interested cities, as well as a national tour."

What do you think about the musical? Do you think Duck Dynasty and musical theater can mix? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Duck Commander: Making the Musical airs tonight at 9:00 p.m eastern on A&E.
